Charter a trip to one of our fascinating destinations just offshore! With the ever-changing conditions here along the Georgia coast, every dive can be a new and enjoyable experience. Gray's Reef, approximately 17 miles east of Sapelo Island, was designated one of only twelve National Marine Sanctuaries in 1981. Before the Ice Ages, the reef was once a part of the coastline. Now it's home to loggerhead turtles, angelfish, coral, and also serves as part of the northern right whale's breeding grounds. G Reef is an artificial reef 23 miles off Little Cumberland Island. Although it also contains a utility boat and two 100 foot tugs, the main attraction is a 441 foot Liberty Ship - demasted, derigged, and dehatched! - making it an ideal wreck dive. Schools of angelfish, jacks, and barracuda frequent the site, as well as a turtle who's developed a rapport with us. Visibility can exceed 100 feet, enabling you to immerse yourself in wonder.
Rates and Requirements
Depending upon your dive location, trips depart at 8 am and return between 2 - 3 pm. Divers should report to the dive center at least 30 minutes prior to the scheduled departure. The cost per diver ranges between $85 - $95 depending on location and number of divers. Rentals are not included. Trips may be scheduled to "G" reef (shipwrecks) or to Gray's Reef National Marine Sanctuary. While the location of the trip cannot be guaranteed unless the entire boat is reserved and weather permits, we do everything in our power to take you to the destination of your choice! For your convenience, water and snacks are provided, but please bring your lunch.
All divers must supply or rent the following items: mask, snorkel, fins, boots, 2 tanks, BCD with low pressure inflator, regulator with submersible pressure and depth gauges, alternate air source, weight belt and weights, exposure suit (or other form of protective clothing), knife, compass, bottom timer, dive tables and slate. Divers without a compass or computer or with minimal ocean diving experience should dive under the supervision of our dive guide. Specialties and certification upgrades are available with advance notice. Make your dives count!
Please keep in mind that as part of pre-dive planning, divers should contact the Dive Center the day before the dive to confirm that weather conditions are favorable. As much as we would like to control the weather, we do not!
The visibility for our dives varies with environmental conditions, but is typically 25 - 75'. The depth range for "G" reef is 40 - 80'. Gray's Reef has depths of 55 - 75'.
Our boat accommodates a maximum of 6 divers plus an Instructor or Divemaster and is booked well in advance. With advance notice, we are able to provide additional charter service for groups of 6 or more. During the summer months, we offer daily charters to our sites. However, divers can get into the water early and end late with weekend outings, starting in mid-May and ending in mid-October.
